Default HELP with Fox Vanilla RLC 80mm Fork

Hi.

I've just changed the oil in my Vanilla, and I can't get the left (port) side to stop leaking. I realized it was leaking, and so went and got a new crush washer. The problem I'm having is that when I try to tighten the 10mm bottom nut against the crush washer, the whole shaft just spins and it never gets tight. I'm supposed to torque it to 50 in/lb, but obviously can't get even close because it is spinning. I had my (heavy enough) buddy lean on the fork while trying to tighten, but again, no luck.

So, in the manual it just says to install it and torque it. Am I missing something? Is there a way to hold it from the top? Is it because of not installing new seals?

Thank you in advance for all help/advice.
