Default 8 sped thumb shfters

Hey guys can XT 7 speed thumb shifters be used with an 8 speed derailleure andcog set up? The thumbs have that 8th click but is the spacing right to shift between 8 cogs vs 7?

Default Of course!

Hi Bud,
I have been using 7 sp XT thumbies on my buck since the end of 93, still work GREAT.
Using XTR 8 cassette on white industries hub with 93 XT rear derailluer. There was a little gizmo made for alter the cable pull (phantom 8, I think) but I never needed it.

cheers,
bruce down under in oz

Shimano 7 and 8 speed spacing is the same, so you're good to go
