old wicked

i have a late 80's wicked that has been sitting in the basement for more than a decade (maybe since 93?). bright orange (safe for hunting season) original paint and all original deore xt etc. i think the stem is cook bros but it was custom painted to match the frame. i had it built by the guys in somerville without the braze-ons on the dropouts (yo eddy wasn't out yet) since i thought it looked a lot cleaner that way. i bought it in somerville, rode it for a few years and parked it as i went to suspension (sorry about that). these have any collector value or should i just let it age with the wine?

Sounds like you have to offer a great bike. I just ran out of cash with the recent purchase of an Elevation 12,000, but pics would be great :D I like pics

Definitely has value ... depending on condition - internal frame rust being the biggest problem for these older steel bikes. Damp basements are not their friend. Detailed photos and specs are always good as is posting the bike here first. Looking forward to seeing it.

basement is dry and finished but i'll shine a light down the seattube anyway and take a look. my real question was, is the occasional ebay sale i've seen posted of wickeds for a few hundred $ the going rate for these bikes?

In my opinion there is no "going rate" only a price range. I do believe that you will get an accurate assessment here though.

The price that a Wicked gets varies significantly based on its condition and the rarity of its finish. Blue or Black frames tend not to do so well. Orange does better. Custom arty schemes better still.

Something that is NOS will get a premium on the order of 25% or more. A frame that is beat up will get very little. I have noticed that COGS seem much more price sensitive regarding condition.

Hey Bret- we're not trying to frustrate you with a bunch of words and no solid numbers. To get an approximate value you'll need to provide the following info: 1) Size 2) Model year and serial number to confirm year 3) list of all components (stock at that time was Deore XT seven speed which is great functionally but pretty common and inexpensive - fancy, period correct parts will command higher prices while later year parts of middling quality will deflate value) 4)Pictures to show both general condition/color/(rough confirmation of size)/paint condition/components and condition/ and worst scratches/dents 5) rough assessment of condition in words 6) Does it have any special qualities ?(you mentioned the absence of rack mounts - special cable routing, an original paint scheme or a BOX CROWN FORK [for MikeyNYC and me] might drive up the price for the right buyer). All of the above affect price but I believe the biggest single factor is the random mood of somebody and how many dollars they've got in their pocket when they see the bike pics. Yo Eddy's seem to bring more dollars than Wickeds which command more than basic Fats - not sure where Buck Shavers (or Monsters) fit relative to Wickeds, but I'd pay more for a Wicked than a Buck or Monster (just my bias).

But enough of my crap - here's some links to bikes actually sold recently:
