Sounds awesome! I'm with you on everything but the saddle. Maybe an Avocet?

Agreed, although the superleggera does look a bit like an Avocet. Maybe I can find one in good condition.

You could bling the wheels a bit an get Dura Ace hubs. A lot of nicer mid-1980s mtbs used them.

NOS Phil Woods, NOS Bullseye, NOS anything! :) Sounds all great guys, I'll let you know what it will be.

A lot of the guys used Nuke Proof or WTB for hubs too so those would be considered period correct if that's the way you're going with the build. Not sure if those are readily available anymore.

I've seen a lot of those Nuke Proof hubs cracked. Just saying.

Yeah the real WTB stuff is very expensive. I'll stick with my first idea: specialized hub in front and a 600ex rear.

Specialized was made by Sansin, right? They were great hubs, but why the mix and match? Have you got one already?

How about keeping an eye out for some NOS Avocet hubs? Made by Ofmega. Rare and really nice - the headsets too - but not always a high price commander.

Slight change in plans:
hubs: Deore XT Deerhead
pedals: vintage Shimano DX BMX pedals
cranks: Shimano FC-6206

anyone know where to find a BB axle? Rody should have collars and bearings.

OK, the frame is off to the painter for a period-correct paintjob. Now all there is left to find is that deerhead rear derailleur. The rest is sorted....

You may have seen it, but there is one in a sale thread on RBUK now.

Shouldn't be too hard to find one!

Hey--Who did you use to do the period-correct paint, where did you get the stickers and how did it turn out?
