Weird Serial # Looking for the backstory

I'm trying to see if anyone else knows about this bike. I've got a yo eddy with a serial number that starts with A4 I can't quite make out the rest of the numbers but I think the beginning is enough to get started.

I bought this bike back in 2000 when I was in college and I remember calling Serotta at the time. As far as I can remember they said the bike was part of a 1996 factory built test run for either the canadian or japanese market, or built in one for a test market in the other. Of course I didn't write down any notes, as I was a dumb college student at the time :)

It's a fun bike, 1 1/8" headset, characteristic yo-eddy rear brake stay, and a lug on the seat tube.

I was wondering if anyone has any insight into this time at the company, ever heard this run of frames?

Pictures would help. IIRC, they had some frames built in Taiwan for the Canadian market that had the seat tube extend above the top tube 2-3 inches.
