Hubs

In putting my project together: I am looking for the look of Chris King hubs in anodized purple, but have heard that although Chris King hubs are amazing, they have an clicking sound that I think would really bother me while riding. I am considering going the route of Phil Wood without the purple :( . I want to run a Sachs Maillard 8 speed freewheel on them. What would be some other options in anodized purple besides Chris King? Ringle' ? (did Ringle' offer a hub to be used with a freewheel?).

Correct me if I am wrong, but on freehubs the paws would be in the cassette, thus the hub would not give you the clicking.

So I guess Chris King hubs are only seup for cassette's and not freewheels?

purple hubs

I'm pretty certain the 1st Ringle hubs took screw on freewheels: not sure if a 8spd freewheel would fit on tho' ?

Another option for colour could be American Classic hubs from around the same time

In the U.K. HOPE's first hubs took a screw on freewheel (purple flanges were a possibility)

Period correct options for a threaded purple hub are few and hard to find...

Ringle did offer 3D Violet Bubba hubs in spacing correct for an 8 speed freewheel, as did...

AC components

TNT

If you are looking for the hottest setup, I would contact Phil Wood and order a custom anodized set...they will be the last hubs you ever buy.

cheers,

Rody: I would if I could. They don't do special order anodized. I have tried. :(

I actually have a purple rear hub wheel (ringle bubba) with a 7 speed screw on freewheel and a mavic 231 rim in my garage. If you decide to go that route make me a good offer and I'll probably let it go as I need the money for tools more than the spare wheel. Its in good used shape overall.

All right Tony, since the folks at Phil won't play nice, do what I did....

Order the hubs from Phil, press out the bearings, and send the shells to Randy and Travis at Absolute Finish.

These guys will custom ano the hubs for you. Their minimum order is 45 bucks, but in the end, if this is what your project needs, to hell with the cost :D

Check them out at

Good luck with the project,
