Default Retrobike @ Mountain Mayhem

The weekend saw the tenth running of the Mountain Mayhem 24 hour endurance race, one of the biggest events in the UK cycling calendar. This year saw a large contingent from retrobike at the race, not only did we have three teams riding (mostly retro rides) but also had a 'palatial' stand in the main paddock area with a display of various bikes. There are loads of details and pictures over on retrobike, here are a couple of pics to get you started.

Our star rider and elite category racer Geoff Beetham led the field out the paddock following the initial 'Le-Mans style' running start and up the first couple of climbs on the 1985(ish) Overbury's Pathfinder. He went on to finish the first lap in a creditable top 15 position, despite being up against riders with carbon frames and new XTR on the 22 year old Overbury's with a lugged 531 frame and 'stags head' deore. Team #2 were hovering outside the top 10 in the elite category until after 11 hours riding at around 1 am it was decided to keep things old school and get a good nights sleep.

Managed to keep up the Fat end as it were by putting in half my total laps on the Grello Yo. Everybody bar one loved that bike.

The luxurious stand had a lot of interest from trade, press and the general public all weekend. I estimate the brakes were squeezed on most bikes around 1200 times and the disks drives poked on average 5 times and hour.
